Perth NRM has been awarded a $19,400 Coastwest Grant to continue the Coastal Capacity Building project delivered by its Coastal + Marine Program.
Coastwest announced the recipients of its 2020-21 Coastal Grant program, with Perth NRM among the 25 successful applicants, including community groups, schools, local governments and nonprofit organisations.
Perth NRM’s grant will support the continued work of the Coastal Capacity Building project, which provides workshops and resources to groups and individuals working on coastal conservation in the Perth region.
In the last 12 months, the Coastal Capacity Building project has delivered workshops to augment or improve the capabilities of our local groups, with knowledge sharing at forums and workshops covering areas such as macroinvertebrate surveys, youth engagement, case studies from other regions and more.
With the advent of coronavirus restrictions, a lot of effort went into delivering events online and producing videos as permanent resources for the community, this has proven to be an interesting new form of engagement with the community and will continue into the future. Check below to see our latest video on delivering community events during Western Australia’s current Phase Four COVID restrictions (as always, check your local health restrictions at www.health.gov.au).
With the funding made available by Coastwest and the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage for 2020-21, Perth NRM plans to deliver a range of activities including a workshop on recruiting volunteers in the 21st Century, ‘Back to Basics’ field-oriented workshops, family planting days and creating links between university volunteer groups and our coastal community.
Perth NRM extends its congratulations to all other recipients in this round of grants, some of whom we work with directly, and all of which we look forward to sharing and learning with.
