This year we will explore the waterbodies, rivers and coasts around the Perth Metropolitan area. This has been chosen due to the uncertainties around COVID. Our branches will lead a walk in their backyard from Monday 16 to Friday 20 May so there is an opportunity for most of our members to attend.

Where: Mosman Park – Minim Cove to Rocky Bay / Garanup Park (6.7 km return). Minim Cove (Bush Forever Site 335) was an aboriginal tool-making site dating back some 10,000 years. A freshwater spring near the shore provided drinking water all year round. The cove bushland is recognised as containing the only population on the mainland in the Perth Region of the species Boronia alata – Winged Boronia. The Tamala limestone cliff-top provides views of the Swan River and the Indian Ocean. This area also has a National Trust of Australia (WA) classification due to the presence of exposed Marine Shell Beds containing fossil fauna and is one of the very limited numbers of bushland areas on the Swan Estuary that has particular conservation value in providing habitat for fauna and linkage between areas of bushland.

This walk is mostly on dual foot path but has some steep and uneven narrow areas, with steps to go up and down the cliff face. We will visit the cave at Rocky Bay Beach.

Bring: morning tea and lunch and wear suitable clothing. There are no toilet facilities along this walk, only at the start point.

Starts 9 am from Tom Perrott Reserve carpark on McCabe Street, Mosman Park.
