This year we will explore the waterbodies, rivers and coasts around the Perth Metropolitan area. This has been chosen due to the uncertainties around COVID. Our branches will lead a walk in their backyard between Monday 16 and Friday 20 May so there is an opportunity for most of our members to attend.
Where: Kwinana – The Spectacles Aboriginal and Heritage Trail (5 km circuit). We may also do the shorter Banksia walk, making the total a 9 km walk. This is an easy walk within the Beeliar Regional Park environment. The Spectacles is 360 hectares of natural bush and wetland, and is a part of the chain of wetlands that make up the Beeliar Regional Park. It is the largest fresh-water lake in the town of Kwinana and is situated between the Ramsar wetland areas of Thompsons Lake and the Peel-Yalgorup system. Birds Australia have identified 87 species of water birds, birds of prey and woodland birds.
Bring: morning tea and lunch and wear suitable clothing. There are no toilets near this walk.
Walk starts at 9 am from McLaughlan Road, south of Anketell Road in Kwinana.
