Community groups and organisations are invited to apply for the 2022 round of the Swan Alcoa Landcare Program (SALP) grants, to assist community-led programs to improve, protect and enhance our environmental assets.
The Swan Alcoa Landcare Program (SALP) is a joint initiative of Alcoa Australia and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), through funding from the Burswood Park Board, delivered by Perth NRM.
Perth NRM CEO Keith Pekin commended program partners Alcoa Australia and the DBCA for their commitment to the devolved grants program.
“Perth NRM works with a wide variety of organisations, from our sub-regional partners to small, non-incorporated community groups. The SALP program is important because it creates opportunities, particularly for the smaller groups, to have secured funding for the year ahead to make plans and seek the best environmental outcomes,” Mr Pekin said.
Alcoa Australia Corporate Affairs Director Jodie Read said the resources company was proud to support local community groups and volunteers to access funding through the long-running program.
“These grant opportunities underscore our commitment to sustainability at Alcoa and are a great way for us to support the tireless efforts of grassroots organisations to protect our environment for generations to come,” Ms Read said.
Almost 1,500 projects have received funding over the last 24 years, with activities ranging from weed and pest control, significant restoration and revegetation works and the creation of artificial habitats to support native wildlife.
The continuity of the program ensures that previous environmental outcomes receive the necessary support for continued maintenance and improvements.
Applications for the 2022 round were officially announced last week by the new Minister for Environment, the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson BA MLA.
“The success of this program is underpinned by the passionate community groups and volunteers who dedicate their time to improving our bushland and waterways,” Minister Sanderson said.
“I encourage interested groups to submit an application and I look forward to seeing the successful projects come to life.”
Applications for the 2022 SALP grants must be received by 6pm on Monday, 31st May, 2021.
