With one of the best climates to be spending time outdoors, our green spaces make Perth such a special place to live, but the need for high density housing and greater urbanization around our region is putting a massive amount of pressure on these areas to exist. Local government and developers have a responsibility to make provisions for these types of spaces but as a community we need to work together to protect existing and futures green spaces in all forms.

Perth NRM has now joined with the Green Space Alliance (GSA) to show its support and help impress upon the government the importance of sufficient, quality green spaces for our city.

The Green Space Alliance came together in 2014 to provide a united voice on the issue of green spaces. The GSA is made up of a range of WA horticultural bodies and aligned organisations and is championed by Perth experts including TV Presenter and garden guru Neville Passmore and landscape architect Josh Byrne.

Green spaces include parks and sports grounds, community gardens and orchards, street trees and green roadside verges as well as green roofs and walls. Natural green spaces need to be considered an asset in our city as they create an ecological link in urban spaces and are crucial to our health and wellbeing.

GSA also advocates for smarter ways to ensure we have enough water to maintain these areas without creating addition stress on other resources.
