This work is carried out through a Value Chain Facilitator who works across the supply chain with growers, wholesalers, retailers and consumers.
Work with Growers
- Build capacity though on going communication, professional development
- Building on and creating markets
- Provide support as point of contact, representation at events, meetings and conferences
- Coordinating grower tours and participation at conferences and international grower missions
Work with Retailers and wholesales
- Regular visits to the Canningvale wholesale markets, talking with wholesales to establish areas of improvement and feeding communications back to growers
- Visiting retailers and providing a WA Stonefruit Retail guide
- Opening lines of communication with retailers and communicating needs back to growers and visa versa
- Regular meetings with major supermarkets chains about specifications, displays, packaging, storage and handling of stone fruit throughout the season.
Working with Consumers
- Aim to increase awareness of local stone fruit being in season and how to use the local produce
- Carry out a season launch which targets consumers
- Coordinate in store tastings
- Participate in activations during the season, especially with Buy West Eat Best
- Manage social media accounts, Facebook and Instagram
Major achievements of this project since 2017
- Securing funding to coordinate a grower mission to Jakarta to look at opportunities to expand our export demand
- Working with the grower committee and growers to establish a Strategic Plan which has a vision to double the demand of WA Stonefruit
- Increased grower engagement with the Committee
- Regular articles in the WA Grower magazine every quarter
- Expanding the project to bring in a stone fruit specific Merchandiser during the season
- Increased representation of the industry at horticultural events and meetings
