Workshop Details:
Learn what we can do in our communities and backyards to support wildlife in Perth from the ReWild Perth team, then delve into the the intriguing and quirky world of Perth’s Native Microbats with the renowned bat expert, Joe Tonga.
Did you know we have 9 species in Perth AND that these tiny insectivorous flying mammals can eat up to 1,000 mosquitos every night!
You’ll get hands-on as you are guided through a Bat Box Building Workshop, where you will help construct bat boxes to help with the conservation of our local micro-bat population. Some of these boxes will be installed in the trees in our local natural areas, while some will be raffled off to participants to take home providing alternative nest sites for our native bats in our urban areas.
Then, Joe will take you on a Bat Night Stalk to try and spot/hear these mysterious creatures, check out existing bat boxes installed in the area, and see what else we can find!
All materials to build the bat boxes will be provided. The bat box workshop will include the use of a battery drill, hammers and non-toxic glue, however no cutting will be required. You will be required to sign a waiver form before the workshop commences. Children must be supervised by a guardian at all times.
Cost $10.00 for adults and free for children under 15 years. The ticket includes refreshments/snacks.
This workshop is powered by Perth NRM’s ReWild Perth Program with thanks to our major supporter, Lotterywest. With thanks for a wonderful venue and catering to each of the following – City of Cockburn, WA Gould League, and City of South Perth.
