Perth NRM’s 2024 AGM was held on November 12 at the Canning River Eco Education Centre, with a focus on Collective Impact.
A Welcome to Country from Elder Robyn Collard took us on a journey around Perth through Noongar language and culture. From Joondalup in the north, to the hills of Kalamunda, across to Kings Park (Kaarta Koomba) and then south to Fremantle (Walyalup) and Beeliar, Auntie Robyn shared the history and stories of Noongar boodja. The Welcome to Country was accompanied by a wonderful Didgeridoo performance by her grandson Tryse.
Perth NRM Board Chairperson, Dr Elena Limnios, welcomed members and guests and spoke to the challenges Perth NRM faced throughout the year, including a reduction in government funding. However, she highlighted the ability of the team to seek alternative funding that minimised the impact. A Board strategy meeting in early 2025 will include discussions on financial sustainability, membership models and increasing our impact.
Craig Pensini, Perth NRM Project Manager for Collective Impact, presented on the Restoration Impact Framework, giving an overview of the Collective Impact Workshops undertaken in the previous year and showcasing the benefits of utilising a Collective Impact approach to achieve a common goal.
CEO Keith Pekin announced that Perth NRM was successful in securing federal funding and being a ‘preferred service provider’ for the Australian government through to June 2028. Keith reiterated the importance of the Collective Impact approach in helping to establish a cohesive statewide agenda for ecosystem restoration. He also spoke of Perth NRM’s flagship programs – ReWild, Regen WA and Coastal + Marine – as “Platforms for Change” and thanked Perth NRM staff for all they do for the environment.
Paul Tzaikos and Kim Harmer were endorsed by members as new Board Directors, and Dr Limnios thanked the outgoing chair of the Committee for Finance Audit and Risk, Keith Halliwell, for his commitment and support of Perth NRM over the past 3 and a half years.
Perth NRM extends its gratitude to our members for supporting our continuing work, and we look forward to collaborating in 2025.
