Are you a climate leader?

1st August, 2024

Climate Changers – Tim Flannery’s search for climate leadership was screened at Luna Leederville on Tuesday 30 July.

Leadership and the role of community-based leaders was a recurrent theme of the panel discussion at the recent screening of Tim Flannery’s Climate Changers documentary. Detailing his journey through international engagements at United Nations Climate Change Conferences (COP), discussions with political leaders, community activists, including Indigenous Peoples and women the film highlighted the need for expansive and collaborative leadership across diverse groups of people. He asks, ‘Where are the leaders that will drive change?’

The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA), the West Australian Landcare Network (WALN) and Perth NRM co-hosted the film and panel discussion to raise awareness of climate change and encourage sharing of experiences, perspectives, and solutions for Western Australia and beyond. Guided by Meri Fatin, the panellists spoke from the heart and called for change. Their message was consistent regarding the need to listen to the extensive knowledge of First Nations people and the paramount importance of nature when seeking and developing solutions.

Thank you to Meri Fatin (convenor) and the panellists Oral McGuire, Dr Renee Young, Mia Pepper, Clare Lagan, and Stuart McAlpine.
