Feral species management

22nd February, 2023

The management of feral cats has been in the news lately, with the Feral Cat Symposium being held in Perth in early February.

To learn more about the national feral fox and cat management program (Centre for Invasive Species Solution) we recently hosted representatives from local government and other natural resource management organisations.

Feral foxes and cats are responsible for killing millions of native animals every year, so it is vital to have a national approach and work together to protect our wildlife and environment from these introduced pests.

Feral animal management is required to support many Perth NRM activities, including our Coastal + Marine, Threatened Species and Threatened Ecological Communities programs.

Thanks to Gillian Basnett, the National Feral Cat and Fox Management Coordinator, for guiding us through and to everyone who attended.

The Threatened Species program, Back From the Brink Stage Two, and Improving the Condition of Threatened Ecological Communities, are delivered by Perth NRM through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
