SALP grants help Landcare groups continue the upkeep of the Swan Region

Matilda Bay Restaurant was the venue for this years Swan Alcoa Landcare Program Funding Ceremony.

The beautiful morning and stunning location were the perfect setting to celebrate and acknowledge the continued dedication of local volunteers and landcare groups to the upkeep of the Perth region and its iconic Swan River.

Over 80 people attended the breakfast, including members from the community groups, dignitaries from state and local government and representatives from Alcoa of Australia, the Department of Biodiversity and Attractions and the Perth NRM board.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment, Mr. Reece Whitby attended representing Environment Minister Stephen Dawson. Following the event Mr. Dawson said “the State Government is committed to providing support to the community to enable the delivery of Landcare projects that will improve the health of the Swan Canning Catchment.  Over the years, the community has dedicated more than 200,500 hours into local projects, which is an amazing effort and is greatly appreciated.”

This year’s ceremony featured presentations from friends groups on their projects, and gave others in the room the opportunity to see the sort of work that is happening around the region. From hand weeding to invasive weed control, the protection of threatened species and communities to feral cat control, revegetation of waterways, riparian repair to rehabilitation of trails, the successful the recipients of the latest round of SALP grants will be undertaking 59 on-ground projects with the funding.

SALP’s 2020 funding round is now open and closes on 24 April 2019.
