Two thousand nine hundred more plants along our coast

17th July, 2018

Perth NRM staff recently enjoyed assisting local community group Stirling Natural Environment Coastcare with their 2018 planting efforts at both Brighton Beach (secondary dunes) and South Trigg Beach (primary dunes) in Perth's northern suburbs.

We were joined at South Trigg by 21 volunteers from Woodside, helping to make quick work of the job at hand.

Perth NRM started the morning at Brighton, helping to plant 180 plants with guards at a site that has been under rehabilitation since 2010. The site recently saw 700 new plants planted with Perth NRM providing infill planting. Native species planted at the site included; Scaevola crassifolia, Rhagodia baccata, Lepidosperma gladiatum, Spyridium globulosum, Ficinia nodose, Hemiandra pungens and Olearia axillaris.

After completing the Brighton planting we joined Corporate Volunteers from Woodside who were well on the way to planting the 2,700+ Spinifex longifolius and Leucophyta brownie at South Trigg. Site works at South Trigg started in 2017 and once planting was completed we started weeding, removing 5 large bags of onion weed from the area.

A huge thanks to the eight tireless volunteers from Stirling Natural Environment Coastcare group who joined us on the day, including Sheldon Pritchard and Rae and Walter Kolb.
