Rehabilitation Seminar

7th November, 2017

As part of the Community Capacity Building in NRM series, Perth NRM held a Rehabilitation Seminar at the Cockburn Wetlands Education Centre.

Fifty volunteers, representatives from local and state government, and the NRM industry attended, listening to a line-up of experienced and excellent speakers give the latest information on restoration. We were honoured to be joined by Elder Elvis Yarran from the Noongar Institute of WA, who welcomed everyone to Noongar country.

Perth NRM thanks the speakers who shared their knowledge and experience at the Seminar: Dr Lucy Commander, Damian Grose, Felicity Bairstow, Richard McDowell, and Linda Metz.

The topics covered at the Seminar included the national standards for restoration and the upcoming translocation guidelines, the Swan NRM Strategy, changes to seed collection legislation, seed collection and processing techniques and storage methods, restoration techniques for bushlands, wetlands and coastal areas, and an update on restoration after the Roe 8 project.

The Seminar was widely enjoyed with an attendee commenting, “The Living Landscapes seminars run during 2017 have been very good, providing very useful information and contacts/networking. Thank you!”

Another participant commented that the seminar was, “Excellent, on topic speakers and practical with lots of useful information!” and a third stated that it consisted of, “A variety of speakers, great format, and inclusive of Indigenous affairs.”

Attendees were treated to a variety of local bush tucker infused foods from Bindi Bindi Dreaming and Eco Eats to celebrate the flavours of our region and Aboriginal cuisine.
