Government Announces More Than $1 Billion for the National Landcare Program

28th September, 2017

The Coalition Government has announced its continuing investment to natural resource management in Australia with more than $1 billion for Phase Two of the National Landcare Program, a commitment made in this year’s Budget.

The funding will be a continuation of phase one and will run from July 2017 to June 2023, securing the future of the program for another 5 years. The phase two investment includes:

  • $450 million for the Regional Land Partnerships Program to deliver natural resource management at a regional scale.
  • $93 million for the ongoing support of existing Indigenous Protected Area plus $15 million new funding.
  • Funding for the establishment of the $20 million Centre for Invasive Species Solutions
  • $5 million for an environment small grants program which local community and environment groups can access for local natural resource management activities.

The National Landcare Program also recognises the vital role Australian farmers play in land management and part of the investment will be allocated to further develop resilient and sustainable land practices.

Engagement with local communities and individuals will remain key as the government moves into the next phase of the program. Consultation sessions will be held in each state and territory to provide more information, answer questions and seek views.

The session in Perth will be held on Friday 13 October and Perth NRM encourages its members to attend. More details on the venue and time will be available shortly.
