December Launches Summer and Stone Fruit in WA

27th November, 2018

The launch is taking place on Tuesday 4th December between 6.30am and 9.00am at two locations, Yagan Square and Murray Street Mall

Local stone fruit is hitting our shops this December and to celebrate the incredible flavours of these iconic summer fruits the WA Stonefruit Sub-Committee, the Agriculture Produce Commission, Perth NRM and the Buy West Eat Best initiative are hosting a Season Launch in the city.

The launch is taking place on Tuesday 4th December between 6.30am and 9.00am at two locations, Yagan Square and Murray Street Mall, where we will be handing out free peach and nectarine samples to members of the public as they start their day.

WA produces amazing fresh produce and we are fortunate enough to have large growing regions close to the cities. The major growing regions for stone fruit in WA are the Perth Hills, Gingin in our Northern Valley’s region and the South West, with the season running from November through to May and peak production and flavour being now, December to March. The launch provides the opportunity to engage consumers with the great local produce and emphasis its usage over the coming summer months.

“When you buy local produce, you are supporting local growers and farmers which means we can continue growing fresh produce for of our community for years to come,” explains APC Stonefruit subcommittee Chairman, Danny Di Marco.

“We have a great season ahead with quality produce being picked and supplied daily through to the shops. Buying WA grown fruit is the freshest fruit you can get.”

Stone fruit is a versatile ingredient to any dish. Sweeten up your salads, add it to your breakfast and with Christmas only weeks away spice up your pavlova or celebrate this festive season with a peach Bellini, all thanks to WA stone fruit.

As well as Perth NRM staff, growers and representatives from the industry will be attending the launch and happy to talk all things stone fruit.

Come down and visit us in the city and learn more about West Australian peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots and how you can utilise these fruits in your everyday eating.
