Celebrating NAIDOC 2018 – ‘Because of her, we can’

This year’s NAIDOC theme, “Because of her, we can” celebrated the essential role that women have played and continue to play as active and significant role models at community, local, state and national levels.
Perth NRM were delighted to participate in NAIDOC celebrations, hosted by the City of Armadale, at Memorial Park. The event allowed us to interact with the local community and display the wonderful knowledge that Noongar Elders and Community Leaders from around Perth have permitted us to document and share.
We offered visitors to our marquee specially themed travel mugs to promote sustainability and the ‘because of her, we can’ theme. The children in attendance were excited to receive Noongar language activity packs, containing educational game sheets on numbers, animals and family language.
The Traditional Ecological Knowledge of Forrestdale Lake book and copies of our Noongar Database, both of which are available on our website, were very popular throughout the event.
