NAIDOC Week celebration – with the City of Armadale

19th June, 2018

Perth NRM will again be attending NAIDOC celebrations hosted by the City of Armadale.

The City of Armadale will host NAIDOC celebrations this year at Memorial Park in Armadale while the Champion Centre is undergoing major redevelopment.

The NAIDOC celebration will be held on Tuesday 10 July and is a free community event with live entertainment and activities for the whole family – everyone is welcome and it is a great chance to experience and celebrate Aboriginal culture.

The City’s annual NAIDOC event will celebrate the national theme – Because of Her, We Can! – and will recognise the pivotal role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) women have played in their communities.

For at least 65,000 years, ATSI women have carried our dreaming stories, songlines, languages and knowledge that have kept the culture strong and enriched our communities as the oldest continuing culture on the planet, Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said

“This year’s theme is a fantastic way to recognise and celebrate the incredible achievements of, and support offered by, local Aboriginal Elders and ATSI women, who tirelessly contribute their time and encourage young women in the community.

“These leaders of today are role models and a constant inspiration to our younger Aboriginal women who will take up the mantle of leadership in future years and continue with their great work,” he said.

Perth NRM will again be attending NAIDOC celebrations hosted by the City of Armadale.

This is a FREE Community Event and everyone is welcome.
