Farm Dam Study – opportunity

19th June, 2018

A data collection and citizen science project to understand the diversity of freshwater life that farm dams support.

Southwestern Australia contains freshwater species found nowhere else in the world.

Farm dams provide the majority of freshwaters present in the Perth Hills landscape in summer-autumn, so they may be providing the only refuge for freshwater species.

Project aims
• To determine what species of aquatic plants, invertebrates, frogs and waterbirds use farm dams; and
• To identify characteristics of farm dams associated with a high number of native species.

Nominate your property as a potential data collection site that could contribute invaluable data towards the study. Farm dams both on-stream or off-stream with permanent water are eligible.

Data collection sites will be selected by 30th June 2018.
