Building Sustainable Communities Update

17th April, 2019

Thanks to all who attended the Building Sustainable Communities event in Maylands on April 11, 2019 for a full day of practical and positive approaches toward progressing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals through community actions.

The conference had over 60 participants representing more than 35 organisations, generating new ideas and connections between organisations. Perth NRM was pleased to facilitate this kind of collective action and learn how we can work with you better.

Early feedback shows that participants appreciated the presentations from our wonderful speakers and have indicated they will report back to their organisations and think more deeply about how the SDGs relate to their work

We recognised the leadership of the social services sector to date in progressing the SDGs and made a call for greater engagement from the environmental sector, working with the whole of community in mind.

We would also like to thank Source Foods for the great lunch, which kept us all energised throughout the day.

A few comments from our participants:

“It’s so nice to meet local people who try to change the world from an individual level.  Thank you.”

“I feel like the Sustainable Development Goals reframe what we are trying to achieve in our business.”

“We will be building SDGs into future grant applications and work on the ground.”

We’d love to hear from you about your actions and how they tie into the Sustainable Development goals, so be sure to let us know how you’re using the information and principles shared at the conference.
