Perth Hills Festival 2017

10th October, 2017

The Perth Hills Festival, formerly the Karragullen Expo, was held on October 7th at Karragullen Oval.

Despite the cooler weather and a few odd showers, the crowds came flooding in to see all the hills had to offer with free pony rides and face painting, machinery displays, wine and food tastings, as well as many small goods and preserves.

Perth NRM hosted a mixture of community and industry partners including Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, WA Farmers, WA Jujube Association and the WA Horse Council.

There was information for small landholders about everything from managing Fruit Fly with nets or baiting to how to grow a Jujube tree, or having chickens in your backyard.

Every year the Perth NRM marquee aims at being a reliable source of valued information for everyone from a commercial producer to an owner of a lifestyle block or someone with some vegetables in their back yard. We find that festival goers are hungry for this information and with the addition of WA farmers this year, we found we could provide extra assistance for those who have livestock.

Attendees were very interested in the Planning Food Future Forum, coming up on the 14th of November, which is an initiative of Perth NRM to ensure our children and grandchildren have access to safe, healthy and local food.

The whole day was enjoyed by patrons and stall holders, with many looking forward to attending next year. Perth NRM enjoyed the opportunity to participate at the Perth Hills Festival and we thank all those who joined us in the marquee and to the Hills Orchard Improvement Group who organise the Festival.
