Perth NRM is holding its inaugural annual Living Landscapes Conference “Celebrating Natural Asset Management” on Thursday May 11th at Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre.

Perth NRM is committed to recognizing the on ground work of the Landcare community and their volunteers across the Perth region and the aim of this free event is to create an opportunity for individuals and groups to come together and share their stories and experiences.

In partnership with the Shire of Kalamunda, who are hosting this year’s event, the conference is being supported through funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program.

With a strong focus on community the day will involve presentations on subjects including seed propagation, volunteering, coastal, wetland and bush projects, equine landcare to name just a few.

Professor Lyn Beazley AO FTSE

After graduating from Oxford and Edinburgh Universities, Professor Lyn Beazley built an internationally renowned research team in Neuroscience that focused on recovery from brain damage, much of her investigations undertaken at The University of Western Australia. Currently Lyn is the Sir Walter Murdoch Professor of Science at Murdoch University. As Chief Scientist of Western Australia from 2006 to 2013, Lyn advised the Western Australian Government on Science, innovation and technology as well as fulfilling the role of science ambassador locally, nationally and internationally. In 2009 Lyn was awarded Officer of the Order of Australia and honoured to be inducted into the inaugural WA Women’s Hall of Fame. Lyn was amazed and delighted to be named the WA Australian of the Year in 2015 and is now the proud Patron of the Naturalist Club and Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network.

 

Simon Cherriman

Simon Cherriman is an award winning environmental scientist, educator and wildlife filmmaker. He is an enthusiastic advocate for the unique Australian bush and its creatures. Simon grew up in the Perth Hills and spent his childhood climbing trees, observing birds and learning firsthand about the local environment. At 15 Simon found a Giant Wedge-Tailed Eagle nest which captivated and inspired him to spend more than half his life studying, photographing and filming this magnificent bird. Currently Simon continues to spread his passion for the environment through his small business, iNSiGHT Ornithology which specialises in bird related research and environmental education. He has also recently began a PhD on Wedge-tailed eagle movement ecology.

 

Malcolm Dix

Malcolm Dix is a Comedian, Speaker, Conference MC and Facilitator with over 20 years experience in presenting across Australia and overseas.
He has performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, toured with the Comedy Festival Road Show and appeared on Rove Live, Triple J and the ABC.

Malcolm’s relaxed style is focused on connecting with the audience and establishing a positive environment. His many years as a stand-up comic have honed his stage skills and ability to think creatively under pressure. In 2015/16, Malcolm completed a Graduate Diploma in Ontological Coaching which has furthered enhanced his understanding of how people think, create meaning, build internal stories, fall prey to “moods” and get into unnecessary conflicts.
He blends this understanding with the Bullshift principles and lots of comedy to help people see healthier, happier ways of being and is looking forward to facilitating this years Perth NRM conference.
